Someone sent me a unification to Dooce when I first became a mom. I was at bag with a newborn baby, unaccompanied in a bonny suburban bag farther from my friends and past haunts. I wasn’t depressed, exactly, but I wasn’t as blissed discover as I’d expected to be at the achievement of my daughter.
“You have to feature this,” my someone said. “This blackamoor is so funny. But she’s more than funny. She understands.”
My someone wasn’t a mom. He was a 30-ish hispter with no intention of ever spawning a child. He wasn’t into babies or in need of a parenting hold group. He meet loved Dooce, because she was queer and more than funny.
He’s not alone. As her journal turns 10, Dooce is widely constituted as the powerful Queen of The Mommy Bloggers.
Lisa Belkin, herself the lead author of the important Motherlode blog, has meet profiled Dooce for the New royalty Times. Dooce, a.k.a. Heather Armstrong, has jillions of readers, and earns sufficiency ad revenue to hold her whole kinsfolk in a style I would love to embellish habitual to.
It’s not the business side of things that makes Dooce matter, though. What matters is that she, and the hundreds of thousands of women who have followed in her footsteps, are creating a newborn literature of women’s voices. We’re doing Virginia Woolf, and her exteroception of every blackamoor having a room of her own, proud.
Go aweigh and vocalization at the notion of blogging as literature. Then feature whatever blogs.
They haw be light or irreverent, but don’t conceive blogging is casual. Women find meaning in the impact of blogging for themselves, and in datum the blogs produced by another moms.
We’ve brought our period to period experiences discover of the shadows of domesticity and into the gleaming light of cursive work that is published, shared, talked most and shapely upon. We’re creating traditions of blogging, artist blogs and posts that are becoming the “canon” of our genre. Bloggers like Dooce alter lesser-known bloggers together. There’s a sense of accord among moms who blog.
