He’s disqualified to play for the rest of the season, severely jeopardizing the Cougar’s prizewinning flavour in 30 eld which has many grouping asking the aforementioned question: did the penalisation sound the crime?
That question was hard to respond until we learned, exactly, what that crime was. And today, binary sources are reportable that the crime was attractive in premarital sex. It’s rumored that Brandon Davies’ lover is pregnant. So did he merit to intend kicked soured the team?
You bet he did. After all, he broke BYU’s (incredibly stupid, totally delusive and embarrassingly outdated) take code. Meredith wrote about that take cipher yesterday on Babble.
B.Y.U. is owned and operated by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and its take cipher requires academic honesty, abstinence and covering standards. Banned behaviors include gambling, cursing and gay relations, and coffee, beverage and baccy and “erotic†or “indecent†materials are every prohibited as well.
So given the take code, if Brandon Davies’ lover is, indeed, pregnant, then it’s evenhandedly manifest he unsuccessful in the abstinence department. But I’m not trusty which is more asinine: the school’s policy, or some teen mortal in USA agreeing to springy by them. Actually, I am sure. The respond is (b) some teen mortal in USA agreeing to springy by them. But just barely.
Look, BYU can set up some policies they like. But I don’t hit to same them. And though I would never encourage my kids to vow in premarital sex, I certainly am not dumb sufficiency to conceive they’ll never at small be tempted to vow in much sex. But block the premarital sex. I hit a Brobdingnagian problem with BYU’s contract with gay relations.
Again, BYU can delimitate “honor” in some artefact they choose. And they obviously opt to delimitate it as one might wait a Protestant edifice to delimitate it. But that take cipher is drastically discover of contact with today’s culture. Their soubriquet alone, for example, fails in the abstinence division given that the word “cougar” has come to be defined as ruttish region older women in search of junior boy-toy sexual partners, which makes the constituent “erotic” in my book.
But here’s the deal. There are obviously innumerous grouping who wouldn’t concord with my points, grouping who would wholeheartedly concord with BYU’s take code. They would argue that hit drink is a sin(really?). And that cursing is a gateway to hell. And that homosexuals are bad.
So while I, personally, conceive those grouping are idiots, I also conceive anyone who is not 100% in commendation with much puritanical expectations are even bigger idiots for agreeing to springy by much a cipher of ethics.
So does Brandon Davies merit to be suspended for the rest of the year? Sadly, yes.
Which brings me to my test point: BYU would definitely not be the place for my kids.
